- Puppy and Kitten Exams
We want to set up your new family member to live a long and healthy life. Puppy and kitten vaccinations are a crucial part in ensuring your puppy or kitten stays healthy. Vaccinations usually will start around 8 weeks old and will finish when they are at least 16 weeks old. Fecal tests will be performed to ensure that there are not active intestinal parasites.
- Annual Exams
Annual exams are your pet’s best opportunity for a long and happy life. With these physical exams, it allows our doctors to closely monitor their health and to identify issues before they become more serious. Booster vaccinations are given at these appointments to ensure maximum protection throughout the year. Heartworm tests are recommended annually by the American Heartworm Association even if your pet is on heartworm prevention. Fecal tests are also performed to make sure your pet has not picked up any parasites within the past year.
- Geriatric Exams
Animals are masters at hiding their illnesses. One human year can equal multiple dog/cat years - this means that diseases and conditions can progress quickly in your pet. Once they are showing symptoms, their condition may be advanced and irreversible. These geriatric visits are important to monitor their physical and internal well-being. We will normally run bloodwork with these exams to hopefully detect any health conditions early on and provide treatments to hopefully slow the progression.

Like humans, our pet's can develop plaque and tartar without proper dental hygiene. Brushing your pet's teeth once a day to every other day is the best way to prevent plaque and tartar from building up. We offer a variety of products to help you keep your pet's teeth looking white and breath smelling fresh.
We offer complete dental cleanings on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. During this procedure, your pet will be sedated and placed under general anesthesia. Performing this procedure while under anesthesia allows our staff to ensure that we are getting a complete look at your pet's mouth, teeth and gums. Most of the time, our pets will not allow us to manipulate their heads to see each tooth from all angles while awake. Dentals include cleaning your pet's teeth with an ultrasonic scaler, polishing, and application of a sealant which helps to prevent plaque from building up. Before cleaning your pet's teeth, the doctor will check if your pet needs any extractions, which will be performed during the dental. To prolong the benefits of the dental cleaning, we highly recommend to brush your pet's teeth daily. To encourage this, with every dental we will provide you with a starter kit which includes: a dual ended toothbrush, poultry flavored toothpaste, and a finger brush. If your pet is allergic to poultry, we do offer vanilla mint as a flavor. Upon availability, we will also send home a sample bag of the Science Diet Oral Care food.

Laboratory diagnostic testing plays an important part in caring for your pet. With our in house lab machines, we are able to test your pet's bloodwork: CBC and chemistries. We also have machines that allows us to run urinalysis profiles. These machines allows us to get faster results so that your pet can be treated sooner. Laboratory testing often is necessary for sick or injured pets, but it does benefit healthy pets as well to establish a wellness base line.
What does does your pet's bloodwork tell us?
- Glucose levels - indicator for diabetes
- Organ functions : kidney, liver, thyroid
- Protein levels
- Complete Blood Count - this looks at your pet's red and white blood cells and platelet count
Our microscope also allows us to quickly identify cells and bacteria growing on or in your pet. Doctors will sometimes take samples from masses to determine whether they are malignant or not.
Radiology
Xrays are the first step in letting our doctors know what is going on inside your pet's body. With an in-house imaging system, we are able to quickly take radiographs of your pet. If our doctors don't see anything obvious, we will send out the images to get reviewed by an on island radiologist.
Some things that radiographs allow us to identify:
- Arthritis
- Fractures
- Bladder Stones
- Foreign Bodies/Intestinal Blockages
- Changes to internal organs
We also have an in-house ultrasound system that allows our doctor's to get a more detailed perspective on things that may be seen within the radiographs.
Ultrasounds also assist our doctors in performing procedures such as getting samples from inside your body.
- Fine Needle Aspirates
- Cystocentesis (taking urine from the bladder)
- Thoracentesis/Abdominocentesis

Technician appointments are available daily for our patients. All pets must be up to date on their annual exams with their primary care veterinarian to schedule. These appointments are for patients that need care, but not necessarily need to see the veterinarian.
